December 2009 Outgoing President's Letter

Dear APTi Members,

It has been a great privilege to be your President during 2009—especially exciting to serve during a conference year and a year that marked the 30th anniversary of the founding of APTi. The conference was truly outstanding, with cutting edge information presented by the best and the brightest speakers from around the globe. The conference was successful financially—not an easy feat in today’s economy. Special thanks to Program Chair, Dario Nardi, Executive Director John Lord and the FASEB staff for their great work.

A rousing 89% who attended said they planned to attend the 2011 Conference! Plans are underway now for the 2011 Conference in San Francisco. Dov Pollack (dov@pollacksilvapollack.com), Judah Pollack (judah@pollacksilvapollack.com) and Conference Co-chairs, and Jane Kise (janekise@earthlink.net) is Pre-Conference Chair. Please feel free to be in touch with them with your thoughts, ideas or comments.

I would like to introduce you to the new APTi Board members:
• Jerry Black, Director of Membership
• Byron Willeford, Director of Training and Education
• Debra Sanborn, Director of Communications

I have transitioned to Past-President. Jennifer Selby Long is now President, and just behind Jennifer is President-Elect Katherine Hirsh. Karla Edwards is now Director of Marketing and Sharon Richmond will continue as Director of Regions and Chapters. Jenny LaChance will remain as Director of Interest Areas and Ray Linder will remain as Director of Finance. Jill Chivers and Jane Kise will be transitioning off the APTi Board and continuing in other roles.

Thanks Jane, Jill and Julie for your incredible service, and a big welcome to our new APTi Board Members!

To ensure that APTi can continue to meet our organizational mission, we need to ensure the financial health of the organization. Membership dues have not been raised in recent memory and in those years our expenses have continued to increase. Therefore APTi will be slightly increasing membership dues in 2010.

APTi is committed to assist you in deepening your knowledge of type as well as adding valuable resources to your professional toolkit. Thus, we have expanded the number and diversity of our web based training classes. We will keep you updated on our exciting classes. Please check our website as well.

In closing, I would like to thank The APTi leadership and membership for your unwavering support this year. Also, I would like to give special thanks to John Lord, for his steadiness and good humor. We are lucky to have you, John!

I look forward to my new position as Past-President and supporting Jennifer Selby Long’s leadership in any way that I can.

With warmest regards,

Suzanne
