April 2009 note from APTi’s 2009 President, Suzanne Brue

On January 1, I began my tenure as President of APTi. As you might know, the APTi Presidency is a three-year term – the first year as President-Elect, then a year as President, followed by a year as Past President. During 2008, I had some terrific on-the-job training working alongside Jane Kise, who will now serve as APTi Past-President. For the coming year, Jane will continue working on the many projects and partnerships she has forged, along with sharing her wise leadership and experience. Right behind me, APTi is lucky to have the very capable and enthusiastic Jennifer Selby Long as President- Elect. Jennifer and I have already started working together on various APTi projects related to our mission. So, there you have the APTi Presidential package – three for the price of one! You will be hearing a lot from me during the next year, but I would like to take this opportunity to briefly introduce myself and, as an ENFJ, I will start with the personal.

Along with my husband, I divide my time between Burlington, Vermont, and Delray Beach, Florida (guess when we are at each location!). We have three adult children and a growing pack of grandchildren. For many years, I was President of the Vermont Association for Psychological Type and found it gratifying and fun to lead one of the largest chapters in the Northeast region from one of the tiniest states in the U.S. My professional interests in type involve its application to physical exercise. Since 2001, I have researched and written on how type influences people’s key motivational patterns and roadblocks to physical activity. Last year, I published my findings in a book, The 8 Colors of Fitness: Discover Your Color-Coded Fitness Personality and Create an Exercise Program You’ll Never Quit! (Oakledge Press, 2008). My work in such a specific field has given me an increased appreciation, and a feeling of awe, as I have observed the framework of type hold up so well, as well as provide such value, in a new and specialized application such as fitness.

I am honored to be serving as President of APTi. This is an especially exciting year – the year of the XVIII Biennial Conference in Dallas, August 5 - 9. The theme of the conference is Constructive Use of Differences. I have been watching the conference program develop under the extraordinary leadership of Dario Nardi, Conference Chair, and it is going to be
one of the best conferences ever. So save the date, and I will see you in Dallas! In the meantime, please be in touch with me with any suggestions, thoughts, observations, and insights as to how APTi can serve you even better. I can be reached by e-mail at suzanne@the8colors.com and look forward to hearing from you.
