May 2008 note from APTi’s 2008 President, Jane Kise

Ever wonder what your APTi Board members actually do? Well…
  • We hold monthly conference call meetings, discussing everything from ideas for adding value to your membership to conference plans, from finances to ways to support our Chapters.
  • We meet face-to-face once a year for a strategic planning session. This year we met in Minneapolis in February, taking advantage of the fact that three Board members live there. Then, in April we held another session in Minneapolis to focus on marketing, training, and member benefits, attended by the Minneapolis residents and others who were unable to attend in February.
  • We gather input from our membership, through surveys, our Region/Chapter leadership, requests for ideas in these letters and in the Bulletin of Psychological Type, and through any chance we have for interacting with members.
  • We look for ways to partner with other type organizations worldwide to bring the best in education and information to you. At our website, check out links to all of these opportunities—our own training schedule, the May 15-17 European Type Conference, the May 17 APTi Regional Conference in Chicago, and the May 20-23 John Beebe Workshop in Indianapolis.

Members can view the most recent board meeting minutes at Recent Board Meetings .  At the April meeting we made two decisions that I’d like to let you know about.

Revisions to the APTi Awards process. APTi presents a series of awards at each biennial conference. In 2007, the Awards Committee, made up of Board members and other APTi members from around the world, struggled to garner sufficient nominations for some of the awards. Further, for a few categories, they believed that the procedures being followed didn’t necessarily result in active involvement of the members most likely to know who was most deserving of the awards. You can play a role in revising our awards process in two ways.

First, you can review the awards process at this link to our website and make comments: Awards Link . Specific changes being considered include rethinking both the number of awards and the form each award takes; ensuring that the awards ceremony is meaningful and enjoyable; and involving our Regional leadership in chapter award nomination and selection.

Second, the 2009 Awards Committee, headed by Jill Chivers, our Director of Membership, is now being formed. In addition to the usual role of soliciting nominations and selecting award recipients, this committee will use the input we receive from members to make revision recommendations to the Board. Interested members are urged to email info@aptinternational.org to volunteer for the three at-large positions on the committee.

Opportunities for APTi Training.. Beginning in 2009, APTi plans to hold “clusters” of Application Days, two to four back-to-back sessions in a given city. While the offerings are still in the planning stages, in addition to days facilitated by our existing APTi Faculty, there will be a limited number of slots open to members who wish to facilitate workshops for APTi. To be considered, the member and the program need to have a proven track record. Look for proposal requirements, to be posted at our website in the near future.

Meanwhile, enjoy your newest member benefit—up to a $300 discount on CPP’s skillsone.com site. If you haven’t seen the details, email info@aptinternational.org and we’ll gladly forward the flyer to you! As always, let me know of your ideas and concerns.

Sincerely,
Jane Kise, President
