By John Beebe – There’s much talk in the type world nowadays about the Eight-Function or Whole Type Model, and my name is sometimes brought up as a pioneer in this area. This chapter establishes the historical context of what I’ve contributed and explains in my own words what my innovations have been.
By Roger R. Pearman – C.G. Jung published Psychological Types (1921) to document his observations of patterns in the ways people think about and act on the experiences of their lives. The psychological costs of “one-sidedness” concerned him greatly, and he wanted psychologists to know how psychological patterns take hold of our mindset and approach to life, and how growth means expanding how we see and understand our experiences. He proposed eight mental functions that combine in various ways to create our mindsets.
