Let's Talk: Unraveling Whiteness - Laurie Lippin, Ph.D.
Wednesday, November 03, 2021, 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM EST
Category: APTi Webinars

In January 2021, we asked APTi members to commit to being part of the movement for a more just society. We asked you to rededicate yourself to reflecting on the role you play in bringing about true and lasting change. Is there a more relevant organization than APTi to champion the constructive use of differences to address our most pressing social challenge?

We are very pleased to bring you this important presentation in a three-hour format to demonstrate how knowledge of psychological type can help create a new normal, post-pandemic, that is based on equity and justice for all.

Race still remains the challenge of the 21st century. White folks wonder why, despite diversity trainings and outreach efforts, interracial interactions are often tense and no matter how hard they try, they can't seem to do anything right.  While a Zoom delivery platform will be    used, this is a highly participatory event for participants to recognize together the effects of a socialization that has maintained “whiteness,” keeping separation and racism in place - and then commit to do something about it.

Understanding Whiteness/Unraveling Racism is an experiential model designed to help turn the lens on the very important and often neglected other side of diversity.  The model provides a non-threatening framework that encourages openness and honesty with the goal of bringing participants to a new consciousness around white identity.  We have a responsibility to seek to understand how we have been socialized to maintain whiteness, keeping separation and racism in place - and then do something about it.  When we do, we contribute to bringing a more inclusive and multicultural reality to our workplaces, our lives, and our world.
